Hi and Welcome to the DVC Wiki for Games in Class!

This Wiki is intended as a professional development resource, link and article repository, inspiration board, and sharing forum for instructors who want to incorporate more joy and play into the learning happening in their classrooms, either face to face or virtual.

Research indicates that the more students learn through play, and the more pleasure students can derive from learning experiences, the more they learn, and the better that learning sticks with them. Because we firmly believe that the best professional development resource we have are our brilliant colleagues, we wanted to create a space for sharing ideas.

Please feel free to interpret games and play in a loose and inclusive fashion--basically we are interested in any assignment or teaching modality that increases student fun and pleasure in the service of learning content or skills. If you don't use a traditional "game" but the students love a certain thing you do, we would love to hear about it and have you include it in this Wiki.

What we have in this Wiki:
  • Article repository related to games, play, and pleasure in educational settings
  • Link repository of sites, conferences, and online resources related to play in educational settings
  • Assignments created by instructors that are play related
  • Discussion board where you can post questions or share info

We look forward to your contributions, and hope this is a useful space for you!

Sincerely,
Lizzy Gand egand@dvc.edu and
Kris Koblik kkoblik@dvc.edu
